An ordinance was approved by Winter Park City Council recently for the sale of the property 2600 Lee Road (MAP), former site of the now-demolished Club Harem strip club, The purchasers are two doctors: Dr. Manuel Perez and Dr. David Varnagy (MAX3D LLC). The two wish to build a venue that features ax throwing and alcohol sales on the property according to council discussion.
According to Forbes, axe throwing venues are a trend that began in Canada in 2011. It recently arrived in Central Florida with the opening of Epic Ax in downtown Orlando. One chain called Urban Axes has locations in Philadelphia, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati and Durham. Tampa already has two.
The purchase price according to City documents is $950,000. The city paid $990,000 for the property in 2015, higher than market value at the time. It appraised for $800,000 when they made the purchase. The reason for the purchase was to change the use of the property among other issues caused by the strip club. The inflated cost also included $200,000 for the cost of the billboard owned by Comcast on the site.

The sale was approved by Council in June. The ordinance was approved in July.
