Lemme Upgrade You --- The City will be upgrading the Lake Eola fountain with new submersible LED lighting. The current system is outdated and is currently working at a 32% degradation rate with a potential risk of additional failure. The estimated amount for the upgrade is $343,849.00.
Dumpin' Subs --- The Mama B’s subs building at 1101 South Orange Avenue was in the midst of demolition Wednesday in the SODO District. A new Foxtail Coffee will open there soon. Watch the video.
Cash for Parties ---The newly formed Orlando Technology Community Support Pilot Program will award up to $65,000 in matching grants in $1,000 and $10,000 packages for Orlando technology companies to develop focused activities and/or programs that grow and connect those within the Orlando tech community.
Donuts Off the Truck --- The Little Blue Donut truck opend up its brick & mortar donut shop April 17th in Winter Park. The truck is off the roads for awhile until they get the store in order. Don't worry donut truck fans: another company has opened up another donut truckon which the donuts are freshly made, just like the other one. We'll be featuring them at The Daily City's Food Truck Bazaar events.
Sweet Merciful Mother of Pearl --- The sign for the I-4 Princeton exit is misspelled.
Secret Coffee Shop --- $10 will you you a ticket to the 500 person grand opening of a coffee shop with a secret location somewhere in the Milk District. If you want to attend the grand opening sign up at Frenchpressery.com.
Who Stole My Road? ---The County and City have applied Complete Streets principles to Curry Ford Road between S. Bumby Avenue S. Crystal Lake Drive which means two lanes of traffic were removed, replaced with bike lanes. Frequent users of the road are not happy. Complete Streets are roadways that are safe and comfortable for all users – people walking, bicycling, and taking transit, people driving and truck drivers making deliveries. This includes impactful elements of development and transportation design.
Solar Roof Panels --- A 58-unit apartment complex will become a showcase for an affordable, sustainable, and supportive housing community in West Orlando. The renovations of the New Horizons Apartments will be retrofitted with several sustainability features, including energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, ductless HVAC, low-flow water fixtures and faucets, on-site community garden, Florida native landscaping, and more. The City and OUC will be providing an economic incentive to assist with installing a 40 KW solar photovoltaic array on the rooftop to generate electricity and help lower utility bills for the tenants.
This Ice Cream Brand Belongs Here --- We have another #bringtoorlando story. This one's about Oddfellows ice cream. They have flavors like Tobacco + Smoked Chili + Huckleberry, White Chocolate + Black Pepper + Strawberry, and... Onion. Orlando restaurants can order wholesalefrom the brand and offer Oddfellow's on their menus. Once they move into their new factory this summer they'll be launching pint-shipping across the US.
Goodings Goodbye --- The Florida Department of Transportation made on offer to the owners of Crossroads shopping center in the Lake Buena Vista/Disney area to buy the center. No sale has been finalized but a late 2019 demolition timeframe has been set. We don't understand it either.
