The food hall is a new restaurant product coming to Orlando and the surrounding towns. As of August 2021, there have been twelve food hall projects in the region in various stages of fruition.
Don't know what a food hall is? Eater describes food halls as "multi-faceted, typically indoor markets showcasing a variety of local food vendors and artisans." So a food court right? No. Food courts were created for convenience while food halls are being created for experience. While visiting a food hall, guests should expect the food to be elevated and unique. The individual food vendors are either locally owned, all owned by one restaurant group, created by a developer of the building, or a combination of the three. Another differentiator that separates them from the food court is that many food halls come with a brewery.

Orlando Area Food Halls In the Works:
An Orlando food hall touted as "the world’s first full-service food hall" by its creators will be opening soon inside a 12,250 SF two story building that fronts a 630-unit mixed use apartment development called The Yard at Ivanhoe at 1460 Alden Road (MAP) in Orlando. The food hall will contain nine restaurant tenants, five event spaces, and three cocktail bars and takes up almost half of the development's 31,000 SF of retail space.

A 22,400 SF food hall is coming to massive 202 acre project called The Packing District in College Park at the intersection of Princeton Street and Orange Blossom Trail (MAP). It will be housed inside a former 1930s warehouse originally used as an orange crate factory called Great Southern Box Company. The food hall, currently named Southern Box Food Hall, will feature 15 food and retail spaces along with a bar, restaurant, and event space according to the master plan filed with the city. It will also feature an elevated outdoor plaza with shaded green space and additional seating for guests.

Downtown Orlando is getting a food hall inside one of the City’s oldest buildings thanks to Lincoln Property Company. When complete, the space will have 18 quick service restaurant booths, a bar and a large high end restaurant. It will serve as the main food hub for Tower One and Tower Two of Lincoln Property's Church Street Station project as well as the entire Central Business District.

A 10,000 SF food hall is in the works for the downtown core called South Orange Provisions. It will contain up to nine food stalls fully built out by the Landlord. Seating will be available inside and outside according to currently-available renderings. The stalls will be located just off the great entry hall on one side and contain access to the outdoor courtyard on the other side.

A 4,000 sq ft food hall and brewery is coming to a shopping center in Edgewood just south of Downtown called Gatlin Hall Brewing. The new food hall will feature Swine & Sons, The Local Butcher, Da Kine Poke, an as-yet-unnamed pizza concept, a brewery named Gatlin Hall Brewing, and a 4,000 sq ft outdoor biergarten. The food hall is named after a fort in Orlando built in 1838 during the Second Seminole War which itself was named after Dr. John S. Gatlin.

This 8,000 SF food hall inside the downtown portion of the Avalon Park developed community will include nine eatery bays, a commissary kitchen, live entertainment and event space, a general store, brewery taproom by Bowigens Beer Company, and a gathering kitchen. The eatery bays are filled with the following vendors: NOLA Avalon Park, BBQ50, Brazas Chicken, Pico de Gallo, Sip and Roll, Lemon Shark Poke, Cheese to Share, Rosso Specialty Coffee, and KBBQ Kitchen.

A 40,000 SF former citrus packing plant 27 minutes from downtown Orlando in Winter Garden will go through adaptive reuse and come out the other end containing a food hall, flex office space, a 15,000 SF events space, and a history museum. Food categories signed or pending for the food hall according to the project's website include pizza, coffee roaster, Asian, Italian deli, Mediterranean, Ice cream, and Tacos.

A 22,000 SF food hall offering dining and retail options, rooftop bar, tree shaded patio, stage, and lake-facing outdoor seating was announced in late 2018 for the Hamlin development in Horizons West. Announced food genres include burgers, pizza, southern fried chicken, sushi, tacos, barbecue, and dessert options. The market is to be located adjacent to Cinépolis in the Lake District. Construction was to begin in 2019 but got delayed in 2020.

Michael Collard Properties, Inc is developing a 14,500 sq ft food hall called The Food Factory within Oviedo on the Park containing eight micro restaurants (800 sq ft each) and a 2,400 sq ft craft cocktail bar called The Factory Bar. Seating will be available within each micro restaurant space, at the bar, and outside under a covered seating area. The announced restaurants include OakFlame Pizza, Burritohead, Graniac, Kai Asian Street Fare, Ruthie's New Diner, Dharma Southern Kitchen. The food hall will overlook City Plaza Way, Oviedo on the Park’s main artery to Center Lake Park.

A newly announced (8/21) food hall project with outdoor seating is in the works for a shady tree laden plot of land at at 506 S. Mcgee Avenue (Map) in the city of Apopka according to Amanda Rabines at Growthspotter (Paywall). The 12,500 SF food hall will contain 9,900 SF of space dedicated to 8 to 12 food makers as well as 2,600 SF of space for a brewery, the name of which is still undecided, from the owner of Orange County Brewers. Rabines says construction is expected to begin on the project in early 2022.

A 32,505 SF food hall currently named The Gr!eat Gourmet Place is part of the plans for an in-development 468 acre mixed use project along 192 in Kissimmee called Magic Place at Celebration. The planned food hall will contain four full-service restaurants, 18 quick-service restaurants, communal tables, and 500 seats. Along with the food hall, Magic Place at Celebration will feature apartments, hotels, a retail complex, and Magic Village By Pininfarina condominiums.

A 10,000 SF food hall in is in the works for the lucky office workers in the Primera Towers office complex in Lake Mary according to Growthspotter. The owner of the five class A office buildings and the property they're built on, Parmenter Realty Partners , is in talks with a retail developer for the food hall project. No opening date or restaurant names have been announced.

Orlando Area Food Halls Open for Business:
This two story market kickstarted the local restaurant and food movement in Orlando and continues to attract both tourists and locals years after. While not solely dedicated to dining, the building does contain several individual vendor booths on the first floor selling vegan biscuit sandwiches, full lunches, coffee, bread, cookies, juices, cheese, meats, plants, and local ephemera. There's also an anchor restaurant tenant called Domu. A large outdoor seating area welcomes visitors to linger.

Originally named First Street Market when first announced, the Henry's Depot Food Hall & Cocktail Bar is located inside a former train depot built in 1940 in the Downtown Commercial Historic District of Sanford. The rear portion of the 8,000 SF building contains a large bar area called The Basin. The front food hall portion contains seven restaurants including Dharma Fine Vittles, Greenery Creamery ice cream, Salvatore's Prime Sandwiches, Oak Flame Pizza, The Current Seafood Counter, Mahogany Coffee, and Maggie Dog Specialty Links.

Lake Nona Land Company got a temporary use permit to allow the development of an open-air food, entertainment, and recreation venue. While not a traditional food hall in construction, 18 repurposed shipping containers contain outdoor counter-serve restaurants, bars, candy shops, and retail. The space also features a stage with live music, dog park, kids recreation area and other mobile food vendors.

Plant Street market is a market / food hall hybrid located in historic downtown Winter Garden with 20 vendors including six restaurants, a brewery, and more. It's a quick drive from downtown Orlando and if you go on a Saturday you can catch the farmers market a couple blocks away.

When Swine & Sons moved from their original location at 595 W Fairbanks Ave, they joined Da Kine Poke and The Local Butcher inside a building a block away at 669 N Orange Ave in Winter Park, creating a modest three-vendor food hall type set up. It has a shared seating area and regularly puts on food focused special events. It opened a second smaller location in Winter Garden inside the Plant Street Market.

Dollins Food Hall is what is known as a virtual food hall. Customers order through mobile apps and get their food through delivery or pick-up. No one is allowed past the pick up area inside the Dollins Food Hall building. The name Dollins Food Hall is a public-facing brand name created by the notoriously secretive company called CloudKitchens which was started by former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick. In February they opened a 41-kitchen facility in Orlando inside an existing one story industrial building one block west and 2.5 blocks north of Camping World Stadium in the Westfield neighborhood near downtown.

Orlando Area Food Halls Worth the Drive:
1. Heights Public Market - The 22,000 sq-ft industrial market features an open floor plan with communal seating surrounded by restaurants showcasing the top chefs and restaurateurs in the Bay Area. Heights Public Market also includes a “Show + Tell” private room that for cooking classes, wine tastings and pop-up dinners in collaboration with market tenants. 1910 N Ola Ave., Tampa
2. The Hall on Franklin in Tampa - This self-described "full Service food hall" contains seven local food concepts set up for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour and late night. It features a walk-up coffee & tea bar and remote work spaces during the day. 1701 N Franklin St, Tampa.
Orlando Area Food Halls That Never Were:
1. Maitland: Spindrift Food Hall - This was supposed to be a 6,756 sq ft concept with 6 food stalls and one restaurant inside Maitland City Centre. 640 S. Orlando Ave. The team behind the project backed out of prior to build out.
2. Artegon Marketplace's Eat Street Food Hall - The name was to be Eat Street Marketplace. It was announced that it would have 27,300 sq ft of food vendors, tasting stations, culinary retail and a cooking school, all in a marketplace environment. The mall closed before this project ever began construction. 5250 International Drive.
3. Downtown Food Hall - On June 22, 2016 we wrote about a rumored food hall coming to Creative Village after we attended a City of Orlando food industry brainstorm session and it was shard that a food hall was in the works for the Creative Village. Two weeks later downtown developer Craig Ustler revealed that he was building the food hall in one of his apartment buildings in Creative Village. Orlando Weekly says Ustler said the space will be "food hall like." In January 2020 we reached out to Ustler for an update on the project and he informed The Daily City the food hall would not be moving forward.
Orlando Area Food Halls That Closed:
1. Market on Magnolia - Located in downtown Orlando, the facility contained three food vendors and a full bar with 40 draft beers, craft cocktails and wine.
